The People Person’s Flower People

If you’re familiar at all with NBC’s classic show, The Office, you may remember Season 5, Episode 4 when the employees of ‘Dunder Mifflin’ were tasked with writing a jingle for the paper company. Thats when the time-honored, stick-in-you-head, bop of a chorus: “Dunder Mifflin: people person’s paper people” was born.

When Daylight Flora was born in 2020, we knew we wanted to be “the people person’s flower people”.

It was a warm August eventing in 2020, when Amyann and I (Amy) met up in Westport, Kansas City to swap stories of life and solo business owner woes. We both had our own separate floral businesses. Amyann had Daylight Mind and I had Flora Design Co. We had both started those businesses in 2016. We regularly competed for the same clients in the same city. We both had ‘Amy’ in our name.

One thing lead to another and before we knew it, we were talking about what it would look like to merge our two separate businesses. It was unexpected and felt a little bit hasty, considering that we barely knew each other. But after a few weeks of meet-ups and many frank discussions, we decided life’s too short and we took the pludge together.

Off the bat, we agreed that we weren’t in this business solely because of flowers. We were mostly in this business because we have a great love for people and their stories.

Life is a beautiful, dignifying ride and there are moments that deserve an extravagant celebration. Flowers have the ability to do that. Why does a bride carry a bouquet down the aisle on her wedding day? Why do we send flowers on job promotions, births, deaths? There is something precious about the beauty of the earth, moulded by human hands to magnify the benchmarks of life. And of course, who doesn’t love a fluffy bunch of blooms sitting on your kitchen counter, just because?

And that’s why we’re here. If you love flowers and you love people, then we’re your people. Daylight Flora: the people person’s flower people. Now all we need is Daryl and a keyboard.
